Background
You may be wondering what you can do to make sure you burn the most fat within your workout. This can be challenging when you are really trying to get that fat off of those thighs and especially belly fat.
Well, I have something that I want you to try for about 2-4 weeks and you can see how you feel. Now I am all for a healthy breakfast and I stand by my statement that it is indeed the healthiest meal of the day.
When you start your day off with a healthy breakfast, at whatever time you choose to do this in the morning/afternoon, you set the stage for how your day will look as far as your diet is concerned.
If you miss breakfast you could eventually become so hungry throughout the later parts of the day that you will overeat.
Also, if you start your day off with a high carb breakfast, it will be the worst thing you can do to your body in the morning. There go your energy levels headed down the drain!
Twenty minutes later, you are yawning and feeling exhausted all over again, and ready to go back to bed. What happens next is the killer icing on the cake. The coffee crave is introduced. For some it’s the Pepsi crave that takes charge.
This becomes a vicious cycle of high highs and low lows for the remainder of the day. Fat cannot be burned through this terrible cycle of high sugar intake, crashing, and then back to sugar again.
The Challenge
There are two things I want you to do for the next 2-4 weeks.
- Exercise on an empty stomach
- Eat a healthy breakfast
I do want you to eat a breakfast but not until you have exercised on an empty belly in the morning. I want your body to pull from only fat as your energy source while you are working out.
Of course, you will need to hydrate yourself but as much as you can, do not eat anything until your workout is over. This means you might want to workout as soon as you wake up.
You do not have to go to a gym to do this. You can take a jog around the neighborhood, run stairs in your house, jog in place, do push-ups, burpees, or just something to get your heart rate levels up for about 30 minutes.
You should be in heart rate zone 3 or 4 the entire 30 minutes. This is very important! (See my article on https://healthyandbetter.com/how-to-burn-twice-the-fat-without-spending-more-time-working-out/)
When you are finished with your workout, I want you to eat a healthy breakfast with protein! Research has found that protein is the best food source that should be eaten for breakfast to burn the most fat throughout the day.
A great protein source is eggs. I personally eat eggs everyday. Some people are afraid to eat the yolk because of the talk of cholesterol but eggs have not been know to increase bad cholesterol, only good cholesterol.
If you are a diabetic, I suggest egg whites but other than that, EAT THE YOLK! That is where all the vitamins and nutrients are.
If you feel dizzy or sick from this, just slow down drink water and breathe correctly. It may be because you are not used to working out. Throw up and get over it if that is the case.
Most people who are just beginning only throw up once, and that’s pretty much a fact. If your dizziness or sickness is due to health problems, then listen to your body. If you have a medical condition and restrictions then talk to your doctor first.
I do want you to challenge yourself as best as you can. I hope to hear great results!

Thanks you so much!
I will most definitely do this! I have been going strong and have a different mindset. I left sodas along been drinking more water and seeing a major difference in my body and workouts! Thank you so much for this! Such an inspiration!
Great job! Im happy you are pushing forward!
Thank you for this website. This will truly help me with my fitness academy.
I’m going to do this! I can’t wait to share my results! But I have one question. I like to drink a kale smoothie every morning which consists of a handful of kale, an apple and coconut water. Can I still drink this after the workout? Should i drink it and have eggs? I don’t want to lose my kale smoothie.
Dont get rid of the kale smoothie! For those who don’t have a smoothie they can just do a total empty stomach but since you do then you can drink the smoothie in the morning but don’t eat the eggs until after the workout:) Or if you want a completely empty stomach then wait until after the workout to drink the smoothie and eat the eggs. Anything under 50 calories is still considered a fast so its up to you whether you do the smoothie before or after. However an apple has more than 50 calories so you would either have to loose the apple or do the smoothie after the workout. I can handle kale and coconut water but many people can’t. Its up to what you can handle:)
Great article!!
I have been doing fasted cardio for while now, and lost a lot of weight from this method (over 40 pounds =D), but I think I’ve reached a plateau in my weight loss journey. I’ve been the same weight for the past two months even after switching up my cardio. I believe it could be in part to the fact that I’ve begun strength training as well, but I still have large thighs that could afford to shrink at least a couple of more inches. At this point, my lower body is slightly unbalanced. I wear a size 8 in my waist, but my thighs are more of a size 10.
While, I know it’s hard to target one body part for losing fat, do you have any suggestions on how to shrink my thighs? I go to spin class once a week, and I switch between running and the stair master for cardio.
Thank you!

Hi there,
I am 62 years old and have been dealing with obesity for at least 30 years. When I say obesity then you know I am not talking about just losing 20-30 pounds. No, I actually qualify for WLS but absolutely refuse to go that route. So here I am, praying that something clicks from this wealth of information that you are offering up. This is such a burden and a shame to me. I pastor a church and I cannot tell you how many times I have wanted to just close my bible and leave the pulpit until I can get this weight issue conquered. I totally agree that God has called us and empowered us to be whole in spirit, soul and body. Thank you Kamilah Stevenson for being passionate about making this a reality for the Body of Christ.
Blessings,
Karen
Hello Apostle K, Thanks for this article! I just have one question how long after doing a fasted workout should I wait before I eat??? For example if I workout at 5am is 10 or 11am too late to eat breakfast or will I start burning muscle that way?
